Sports event - Canoeing championships at Decize
Setting up a village for a sports competition
More than 400 athletes of 25 different nationalities gathered in Decize, Burgundy-Franche-Comté, for a major sporting event: the European Canoeing Championships. Atawa took part in this competition behind the scenes by renting out reception tents and other marquees!
Atawa rented the entire infrastructure for the event
From 25 to 28 July, the town of Decize welcomed 400 athletes from around twenty different countries. They all came with one aim in mind: to compete in the European marathon canoe-kayak championships. This was a great first for the small town, which is used to hosting national competitions, but had never before organised a sporting event of this scale.
All in all, almost two years of preparation during which the organising committee of the championships came to Atawa for help. The specifications? To provide the overall infrastructure for the competition, i.e. nearly 1,400 m2 of tents and flooring to house the athletes, but also 150 volunteers who came to take care of the catering and the pools.
As a result, Atawa rented 35 5 x 5 metre Pagoda tents, a 10 x 20 metre catering tent, a second 10 x 20 metre tent, lighting, sanitary facilities and carpeting, all of which were located on the banks of the Loire River.
Organising a major sporting event in Burgundy
To meet this major challenge, it was necessary to set up appropriate personalised support managed by a dedicated Atawa coordinator. The coordinator's tasks included drawing up a precise layout plan, drawing up a rigorous set-up schedule, carrying out a technical visit to the very large venue to check the location of the tents and ensuring that the tents and facilities were approved by the safety commission.
The logistics were equal to the level of the athletes who offered an unparalleled show to the supporters.
